Schools/Children's Groups Itinerary

Here's a example of one of our specialist tours suitable for use by primary schools and children's groups.

9.30am - Meet in the parking area of the Pilgrim Fathers Pub and Restaurant, Scrooby.

9.35am to 10.00am - travel to Babworth.

10.00am to 10.10am - disembark from the coach, walk along a public footpath to All Saints Church (large coaches may have difficulty in turning and parking at this building).

10.10am to 10.30am – at All Saints Church, Babworth:

"Cat-astrophe!" (Presented by Russell Hocking)

The world-changing Pilgrim Fathers saga is introduced through a likely perspective of William Brewster's children and their friends. A fat-cat police state – already shaken by the religiously inspired Gunpowder Plot of 1605 – reacted with 'teeth and claws' as seemingly mouse-like 'little people' began to challenge the status quo and sought the freedom to live, think and worship according to Bible-based ways of pleasing God.

10.30am to 10.45am - comfort break and snack time

10.45am to 11.15am – "Mouse Hunt" (Presented by Russell Hocking)

We explore what Separatist children were likely to have experienced as the State/Church authorities hunted down, persecuted, and jailed them and their parents. Family members were separated as they attempted to flee England in a desperate bid to find new and peaceful lives for themselves in Holland.

At the end of this presentation everyone will be invited to hunt for the eight "hidden" mice carved into the furniture at the Babworth church by the once well-known Robert 'Mousey' Thompson.

11.15am to 11.30am - walk back to the coach

11.30am to 11.55am - travel to Scrooby and disembark in parking area of Pilgrim Fathers Restaurant

11.55am to 12.00pm - walk to St Wilfrid's Church, Scrooby

12.00pm to 12.20pm – at St Wilfrid's Church:

"American Tale" (Presented by Russell Hocking)

We conclude the adventures of the children from Scrooby, as we consider how they came to terms with culture shock, the possibility of being caught up in civil war in Holland, and faced the threat of invasion by Spain. The Brewster children's father, William, became a hunted man, and the siblings themselves were separated – when only two of them embarked on the terrible journey across a stormy ocean to the strange, dangerous, but not hopeless New World.

12.20pm to 12.25pm - walk to the Village Hall/Green

12.25pm to 1.00pm - picnic lunch on the Village Green or in the Village Hall (depending on weather)

1.00pm to 2.00pm - Pilgrim Fathers themed children's presentation in the Village Hall:
"The Great Scrooby Variety Show"

Presented by Rev Steve Williams, Senior Minister at the New Life Christian Centre, Retford

Steve presents an interactive Pilgrim Fathers-themed children's presentation that includes magic, stories, songs with puppets, fun with masks, and prizes.

2.00pm to 2.15pm - comfort break

2.15pm to 2.25pm - walk back to the coach

2.30pm - coach departs, Pilgrim Tour ends
